Line, shape, form, color-those basic art elements interest me more than trying to imitate or draft a particular image onto paper or canvas. Everything is a canvas in my world. Gourds, chairs, tables...
I'm not much for talking about myself, but I love talking about my art.
Right now, I'm exploring gourds. They are incredibly versatile. I can draw on them, paint, carve, and add other media to create new objects.
Gourds come in lots of sizes and I especially like the egg gourds because they are perfect for ornaments. I call them ornaments, but they are great for display all year round. If you need a shot of texture and color in a small space, these are perfect.
HOW I DO IT
I also make things. I make ornaments with copper wire, I sew clothes and wraps and curtains and purses (I make all my own purses) I refinish furniture I find at yard sales and add my own stamp to them. No, I have no simple stained wooden chairs! I love to draw on things, and furniture makes a terrific canvas! Yes, I got into trouble as a child for drawing on things-my mother gave me lots of other things to draw on so we worked it out.
I hope you enjoy the art posted here and check back-I plan to post new work as often as possible. If you would like to email me for prices, questions about custom work (yes, I'll make you something or refinish an old favorite chair, just send me an email and we can talk about it), or comments about the art, please do!
